Pentecost Sunday

June 8 is Pentecost Sunday.  Please remember to wear red to church on that day.

We will also collect Pentecost Offering during this time.  Your Pentecost Offering helps children, youth and young adults at risk.  This year, our portion will be split between two organizations: Uplift in Action and Reality Changers.

Reality Changers (http://realitychangers.org) transforms lives, schools, and communities by providing youth from disadvantaged backgrounds with the academic support, financial assistance and leadership training to become first generation college students.

Thank you for your support.   Contact Joe Huffaker through the church office (619) 582-8480, office@fpsd.org  if you have any questions.

The following is from the PC USA Mission Website: http://www.presbyterianmission.org/ministries/worship/pentecost/

Day of Pentecost

Painting of a dove with a halo flying over a group of colorfully dressed people with halos.

A 15th century German depiction of Pentecost.

On the Day of Pentecost we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit descending in a mighty rush of wind and flame to inspire the church’s proclamation of Christ’s rising and to empower its mission and ministry to the world. (See Acts 2:1-13; see also Joel 2:28-32.)

The notion of Easter as a season of 50 days ending at Pentecost is patterned after the ancient Jewish festival of seven weeks that extended from the beginning of the barley harvest (on the second day after the beginning of Passover) to the end of the wheat harvest at the Festival of Weeks or Shavuot (see Deuteronomy 16:9-12). The Festival of Weeks later came to be called Pentecost (“50th day”) by Greek speaking Jews. In Jewish tradition, Shavuot also marks the giving of the law to Moses at Sinai; this liturgical link may inform Paul’s discussions of the law and the Spirit (see Romans 8, 2 Corinthians 3 and Galatians 3).

Golf 4 Good Tournament! Win a new car with a hole in one!

The eight annual Golf 4 Good (G4G) tournament to benefit Presbyterian Urban Ministries (PUM) will be held Monday, September 8 at Admiral Baker Golf Course located at 2400 Admiral Baker Road, San Diego, CA 92120.  The course is located just off Friars Road.

Golfers are invited to play in the tournament that includes lunch and dinner, a chance to win a new car with a hole in one, and an opportunity to bid on great items at the silent auction and dinner.

Your G4G ambassador, Steve Wood will provide information to interested golfers as well as non-golfers.  This fundraiser provides an opportunity for you to enjoy yourself while providing support to PUM’s ministry to our less fortunate brothers and sisters.  Registration is open on the tournament website – www.golf4good.org.

For more information, talk to Steve Wood after worship on Sundays or contact him through the church office at (619) 582-8480 or e-mail office@fpsd.org.

The Catamaran Mariners of Faith Presbyterian Church host this event, every 2nd Friday of the month except one month in the summer.   Call the church office if you have any questions.

Fiesta Celebration Lunch

The entire Faith Family is cordially invited to a Fiesta Celebration Lunch on Sunday, June 8th at 11:00 a.m.  The College Ministry Committee wants to honor your generous participation and support during the past 2013 – 2014 school year.

The starring menu item is a “flying saucer” – you really must come if only to find out how you can be expected to eat a flying saucer!  No need to sign-up – we are going to cook-up a big fiesta and trust the Spirit to bring ALL of you on June 8th!

See you soon!
