Membership

Want to know how to join our congregation?

Faith Presbyterian Church gathers in the College Area from all across San Diego. We desire to embody beloved community, and we are diverse. We are people of color, white, gay, straight, married, single, parents, old, young, and with various abilities. We share a common life characterized by concern for justice, delight in education, and excellence in music, through all stages of life. We carry living traditions with us as we grow in faith, and we see the triune God as our best expression of faith.

We are congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA).

By joining this family of Faith, you are joining a community of people who desire to be inclusive, nurturing, and justice-seeking. And, we are on a journey of learning together what this means for us.

You are invited to bring your full self, your doubts, questions, aspirations, and dreams.

Your participation and financial support make the ministries of this church possible and create a positive impact on the lives of individuals and the community.

Inquire

You can contact the church office about membership by calling or emailing in order to setup a conversation with the pastor to learn more about our congregation and ways that you can participate in small groups, choir, worship, and service in the community. This is an opportunity to get to know the pastor and the church.

Share

Join in conversation with the session (the board of church leaders), where you’ll be invited to share your story and your desire to join the membership of our church. If you have been baptized, then you may share the date of your baptism during this conversation. If you have not been baptized, then your baptism will be part of your welcome to the church.

Welcome

You will be joyfully welcomed by the church during a worship service on a Sunday morning. Membership is a beautiful gift and public commitment to share in the life and ministry of this spiritual family. The pastor will ask you four questions of membership. These are the questions, along with the answers:

Trusting in the gracious mercy of God, do you turn from the ways of sin and renounce evil and its power in the world? I do.

Who is your Savior and Lord? Jesus Christ.

Will you be Christ’s faithful disciple, obeying his word and showing his love? I will.

Will you devote yourself to the church’s teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers? I will.

The pastors then asks these questions to the congregation:

Do you, as members of the church of Jesus Christ, promise to guide and nurture [name], by word and deed, with love and prayer, encouraging them to know and follow Christ and to be faithful members of his church? We do.
